Position Overview & Responsibilities

  • WORK PERFORMED:
  • Maintains the highest quality of cleanliness in all guest rooms - carpets kept clean, bedspreads and drapes kept in top quality condition, lamps and lampshades changed on an “as needed” basis.  Floor lamps kept in good repair.
  • Oversees the daily Housekeeping of Housekeepers.  Can supervise and delegate Housekeepers according to daily needs.  Able to correct potential problems.  Able to use good judgment and offer reinforcement training.
  • Able to trouble-shoot.  Willing to clean guestrooms and work in any other area of the Lodge as needed.
  • Will track the progress of employee training and employee evaluations to avoid any late reviews and
  • Coordinates with Human Resources and Executive Housekeeper/Purchaser training raises, annual raises, and merit raises.  Will enforce all disciplinary policies of the property under the direction of Executive Housekeeper, Lead Housekeeping Supervisor, Director of Human Resources or Assistant General Manager.  Will communicate with other Housekeeping Supervisors on BIL Human Resource policies and other related employee issues.
  • Oversees the stripping of linens from the guestrooms on a daily basis.  Assists in the transportation of all dirty linens from the guestrooms to the receiving area.  Willing to assist fellow Floor Supervisors as needed.
  • Assists Executive Housekeeper in specific projects when requested.
  • Maintains a neat and sanitary work area for the Housekeepers.  Stocks Housekeeping Rooms with the proper number of designated linens.  This includes all items for guestroom cleaning.  
  • Inspects completed guestrooms for proper cleaning and reports problem areas to the specific Housekeeper for correction.  Informs Executive Housekeeper of potential problems, and assist in reinforcement or discipline measures.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning products, room supplies, linen supplies, glasses, and paper products.
  • Reports to Lead Housekeeping Supervisor/Purchaser when supplies are low.
  • Maintains both Housekeeping carts and Laundry carts.  Maintains the condition of ice buckets, trays, wastebaskets, paper products, toilet caddies, etc.
  • Recognizes disciplinary procedures are a part of being a supervisor.  This includes Lead Housekeepers and all Housekeeping personnel.
  • Responsible for direction of Lead Housekeeper assigned to first floor, including training, for position and all on-going training and coaching of Lead Housekeepers to develop for future management team.
  • Cooperates with other Supervisors and Managers in non-Housekeeping Departments.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the vacuum cleaners, rollaways, and cribs.  Reports to Maintenance any potential problems.  Follows through…making certain that corrections are made.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times; eliminates or reports unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains the proper wattage in all lighted areas (guestrooms and hallways).
  • Responsible for collecting all Linen reports and keys.  Accepts responsibility for the keys!
  •  Works closely with Maintenance and cooperates fully with each employee.
  • Oversees the proper order in which laundry is put into the Housekeeping rooms; able to communicate the proper distribution of linens to all phases.  Realizes the importance of equal distribution and the impact it has on productivity.
  • Responsible for the placement of the Laundry Carts and stresses the importance of safety for guests and property (hallway lights).
  • Works closely with other Floor supervisors and cooperates fully with each.  Works together as a team for the betterment of the Housekeeping Department.
  • Seeks out opportunities to provide exceptional guest service.  This is accomplished by training employees to greet all guests in a warm and friendly manner, training employees to be courteous to our guests and fellow employees, and setting an example for all subordinates.  This is performed on a daily basis.
  • Monthly will be responsible for inventory of all room linens, cleaning products etc.  Objective is to maintain a 5 par for the guestroom linens.
  • Does not participate in or encourage gossip.
  • Demonstrates exemplary behavior for the Housekeepers.
  • Strives to meet or exceed goals of the property, assists in pulling together as a complete TEAM.
  •  Develops property employees to their fullest potential thus improving the quality of work life and the overall environment in the work place.  This objective is directed at providing the highest level of Guest Service offered in Michigan.
  • Sets an example for all the staff to observe ... conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
  • On a daily basis is responsible for securing all Lost and Found items from guestrooms, to include the proper documentation and relocating the time to the proper location for security.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all storage areas.  Proper placement of items to designated areas ... for example: lamps to lamp area, bedspreads to bedspread area.
  • Able to take initiative to complete monthly jobs.  Special assignments should be clearly defined for clarity.
  • Maintains visibility and approachability throughout each day.  Able to give proper direction to all subordinates throughout each day.
  • Doing all evaluations so that they meet the time frame and are turned into Human Resources on time.
  •  Suggests and uses established methods for the creation, monitoring and completion of department, personal and corporate goals.
  • Suggests and implements methods for controlling expenses and promoting and creating sales ideas in own and other departments.
  •  Actively participates in the Coaching process to increase personal and professional growth  and to mentor employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Position Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year Housekeeping experience or the equivalent in another operation.
  • Ability to supervise personnel effectively.
  • Ability to stand and lift continually with good health and muscular coordination.
