How long it should take to find a job in today’s job market?

action planHow long it should take to find a job in today’s job market? Unfortunately, the answer is “it depends.” Your job search is probably going to take longer than you anticipated and yet there are job seekers fortunate enough to find a job within a few days.

There are many factors that impact the length of your job search:

  1. The economy
  2. The Job Market
  3. Economic conditions in the location you have targeted
  4. The number of jobs available in your field in your geographic area
  5. Flexibility in your job preferences
  6. Your credentials – skills, stability and experience
  7. The longer you are unemployed – the longer it will generally take to find a job
  8. The amount of time and energy  dedicated to your search
  9. The quality of your resume, cover letters and references
  10. Your communication and follow-up skills

Some of these factors, like economic conditions, are not in your control. However, other factors like the willingness to consider relocation or other job targets are things you can change.

If you are not obtaining results, you must do something different. Those things may include:

  1. Opening your search to a larger geographic area
  2. Investigating new targets
  3. Revising your paperwork (resume, cover letter, references)
  4. Spending more time on your search efforts
  5. Building your professional network
  6. Marketing yourself directly to hiring authorities vs. spending your entire day on Job Boards

You will find a job, the questions is when your efforts and timing will align with the needs of a prospective employer.

  • Amy is genuine, honest and has a passion for what she does.

Amy contacted me in a time where I was unhappy where I was but wasn’t doing anything to change it. She was very informative and if she didn’t have the information at hand, she got it. She revamped an old resume making it more about achievements than responsibilities. She coached me on interview tactics before multiple interviews and was there to talk about them afterwards. Every conversation we had felt more like a friendship than business. She is genuine, honest and has a passion for what she does. She also helped boost my confidence through the entire interview progress. Whatever she is doing, she must be doing it right because I got the job! Thanks Amy for a life changing experience.
    Sincerely,
    Shawn Ware

  • I would 100% recommend Ross

I cannot begin to thank Ross and Karen enough! without the two of them I wouldn't have even known about the position! The interview process was quick, easy and simple. After only a short week I was in a position I knew I was going to love forever and it was all thanks to them! Ross has been so good about following up with me even after being hired, asking how my experience has been, what hours I'm working etc. and to top it all off Ross even sent me a gift card thanking me for working with him. I would 100% recommend Ross to anyone looking for a career in the industry!
    Cheers,
