The warmer weather and extended day light awakens the soul. People are coming out again, streets are filled with smiles, and restaurants are alive with conversation. I’m not sure if it is the calm after the storm of the pandemic or spring in the air, but the restaurant industry has bounced back.
When covid began, restaurants along with the rest of the world shut down. We did not know what to expect. After the initial shock, some opened their doors for take out and continued to run. Other establishments did not weather the storm as well. Some restaurants had to close their doors temporarily, others forever. The pandemic changed the restaurant industry in a way no one expected.
As a country we learned to adapt to these changes. Slowly guidelines allowed patrons to wear masks and sit down inside. This was a huge leap for restaurant owners hoping to re-hire staff and get back on their feet again. Restaurants were now able to function with dine out, dine in, and outdoor dining options. This allowed restaurants to bounce back with guidelines in place.
Two years later with covid under control and pandemic plans in place we can move forward as a country to relax on guidelines. This is a huge sigh of relief for the restaurant industry. The mask guidelines have relaxed and patrons can dine in comfortably at their personal discretion.
With more American’s ready to test boundaries and explore outside of their homes, restaurants are busier than ever. Establishments that were once empty are seeing wait times again. It is exciting to see a packed patio on a Saturday night. A smiling face siting next to you at a bar, or a family at the next table is a welcome occurrence again.
A recent Yahoo Finance online article stated that in a recent survey, 75% of Americans were dining out again, a record number during the covid-era. Travel has also seen a significant boost. The increase in consumer demand, coupled with on-going staffing challenges, have created the perfect recipe for demand.
