It is often said that people may not remember what you did but they will always remember how you made them feel.

This is so true when recruiting top talent for your company.  Many companies offer the same benefits, the same vacation, the same salary range, the same the same the same.  What makes you different?

If you don’t have a big edge over your competition to recruit and retain the best employees, take a look at the interview process for candidates.  Candidates go through several stages when they are deciding where they want to work and which job offer they will accept.  This journey is greatly impacting by the way you make them feel while interviewing with you.

Candidate Journey is the expression used to describe 6 stages through which job seekers go through: Awareness, Consideration, Interest, Application, Selection and Hire.

Candidate Journey Definition

Similarly to when buyers look for services and products to purchase, candidates go through different stages when looking for new job opportunities. This is the reason why today’s candidates need to be treated as customers.

There are 6 stages through which all job seekers go through:

  1. Awareness
  2. Consideration
  3. Interest
  4. Application
  5. Selection
  6. Hire.

Throughout their candidate journey, candidates will have multiple interactions with your Employer Brand.

Your brand is reflected in every aspect of the job consideration process.

  • see your job advertisement on a job board
  • visit your career site and read your career blog
  • check the ratings of your company on a company review sites
  • visit your company’s Facebook page
  • join your Talent Network
  • talk to your company representative at the career fair
  • fill out your online job application, come in for the interview, etc.

Active vs. passive candidates’ journeys

It is important to note that while the first three stages of candidate journey focus on active job seekers, the last three stages focus on the passive candidates.

LinkedIn research has shown that only 12% of people actively look for jobs, and this is the reason why recruiters have started paying more attention to passive job seekers and the awareness, consideration and interest stages of their journey.

Can you sell the opportunity with your company?  Are you able to get a candidate excited about the thought of working for you?  Are you able to make them feel that your job is better than others?  If not, you may want to consider using a recruitment agency because that is exactly their expertise.  They can you through the job process, sell your opportunity to the candidate and find you the top talent you are seeking.

  • Karen Horton is personable, knowledgeable, and was instrumental to my Career Goals.

Communication and correspondence with her was easy and fast and her feedback always proved very useful during the recruitment process.  With other recruiters I have dealt with in the past, I've usually had the impression that I was merely part of a quota of applications. This was not so with Karen, I am convinced that she had my best interest in mind as well as those of the company she was "hunting" me for.

I cannot thank Karen enough for all her assistance in what I am sure will be a long lasting relationship with my new employer.

    Regards,
