Having been a restaurant recruiter in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, it’s pretty clear that Americans are ultra conservative when it comes to where they chose to dine. Whereas other countries have really bizarre restaurant concepts like toilet themes and jail themes, probably the most “out there” concept in this country is one where the servers scream at the customers.
This video shows a really “far out” restaurant concept which is located in a prison for the crimnally insane. You actually dine in a jail cell, eat strange foods out of stranger serving dishes! It’s hugely popular with lines of customers wrapped around the building waiting for a “cell” in which to eat. Somehow I cannot picture this being successful in Washington DC!

Thought is was pretty cool. The bed pad beer glass and the cocktails coming out of the dummies head. Very fun, different and definely not boring. As for Washington DC restaurants, this is way over the top. There is a Ethiopian place that I like to go to where you sit on pillows and eat with your hands but I am sure this concept (weird stuff in Japan) would not migrate to America.

Beautiful city, but very strange restaurants! You could not pay me to eat in some of those!

Pretty scary. Maybe it would go over well during Holloween, but on a regular basis, forget it.

Maybe this would be cool in October for Holloween, or if you are having a special occasion, but for every day? No way! This kind of stuff is flash in the pan (or bed pan, LOL) but wouldn’t last long in DC let alone in the US.
