NRA Operator Survey Paints Optimistic Picture

The latest National Restaurant Association survey of operators showed that although same-store sales remained negative in July, restaurateurs reported an improvement from June’s soft performance. In addition, more operators reported a positive future economic outlook than had three months earlier.

The optimism moved the NRA Restaurant Performance Index, or RPI, to its first gain in three months. The association’s RPI — a monthly composite index that tracks the health of and outlook for the U.S. restaurant industry — stood at 98.1 in July, up 0.3 percent from its June level, according to a report released Monday by the Washington, D.C.-based NRA

As a restaurant manager I am very happy to hear this. I believe it 100% because I have lots of friends who are restaurant managers and they tell me that restaurants are expanding and sales a growing, Very exciting. news.

  2. Frank Says:

Not all restaurants are doing so great. I’m not convinced everything is turning around the way everybody is talking about.

  3. John Says:

I think there is some light at the end of the tunnel but I’m not jumping for joy yet. Restaurants seem to be doing better but the ride is not over yet.

  4. Jay Says:

I have definitely seen improvement in the sales in my restaurant. We have done some menu readjustments but the sales volume is definitely going back up.

  5. Judy Says:

We have pretty much stayed the same at my restaurant. We never really dropped much in sales so it’s hard for me to tell if things are better or not.

  6. Patrice Says:

Patrice & Associates honestly has not really been affected by the economy. The hospitality industry is so huge and people still eat out. People may not take expensive vacations or stay in luxury hotels but they still eat out. I live in the Annapolis, MD area and if my husband and I want to go to breakfast on the weekend we either have to get up very early or plan on standing in line. Women work more and cook less. I personally am glad for the curb-side service available at good restaurants. Pizza gets old after awhile.

  7. Lacey Says:

I agree with Patrice, more women are working and they don’t want to cook when they get home. It’s great that local good restaurant run great deals during the work week. My local Applebee’s kids eat free on Tuesday, and when you have 2 or more kids, that adds up.

  8. Marvin Says:

Judy – you are lucky, I guess my restaurant figures are down because they are cutting shifts where I work. Hope it picks up.
